Cameron improved on his Regional time by 3 seconds by leaving everything on the track: heart, soul, and more than a few spikes from his shoes.  Unfortunately, his adversaries from the Region I meet matched his improvement which prevented him from claiming the title.

Cameron’s participation at state closes out a successful track season highlighted by District and Area titles by the team and many individuals.  They are inspiring a tradition for future classes to try to match.

Cameron will be making his run for a state title in the 1600M on Saturday at 8:45PM.  He comes in with the 3rd Fastest time from the Regional races.

His time was actually better than any other of the Regional’s winners which is testament to how tough Region I is in the distance events and for that matter all of the events.

Next up is the State meet in Austin on May 11.

Cameron broke the Region I record in the 1600M! Unfortunately, the two runners ahead of him broke it a little more.

What does that mean?

Depending on the results in the other three Regions Cameron may qualify as a wild card entrant if his 3rd place time is better than all of the other 3rd place finishers. Update: Region IV has no runners that ran faster. Region II – No Runners ran faster! That leaves Region III which is postponed until Monday.

UPDATE II: Region III has no runners with a better time.  Cameron is State bound!

Keshun R. places 4th in 400M! While his run to state may be over he can look back at a very good Freshman campaign.

4×100 finished 5th.

Many Warriors within a fraction of a second of qualifying for finals but the margin for error is very small in this Region.

The Region I Championships will be held at the Texas Tech Track in Lubbock,TX on Friday, 4/26 and Saturday, 4/27.

A number of Warriors are well positioned for a berth in the State meet but the level of competition will require perfect technique, health, and a little luck to meet that expectation.  Good Luck!

Thursday’s field events begin at 1:00PM and the running event will begin at 3:00 with the 3200M.

Friday’s field events will begin at 11:30 and running events will start at 6:00PM.

Looks like there will be two Area meets, 3-5A vs 4-5A and 5-5A vs 6-5a, being held concurrently so this meet will determine half of the regional qualifiers for next week’s meet in Lubbock but our results will only be compared with the 4-5A contestants.

The top 4 finishers in each event will move on to the area round.

So what will be the keys to watch for?

Weather -The forecast calls for stormy weather on Wednesday which may prompt some type of schedule change. Thursday will be cool which is good for the distance runners not so much for everyone else.

Relays -The Warrior Boys Relay teams have been one of the core strengths of the team that has helped propel the team to a number of wins this season. The 4×400 has been especially strong which may be the deciding factor.

Distance-The boys and girls teams both field a deep and talented field which will be counted on to score critical points for their teams. The Warriors sport some of the district’s top times in the Boys and Girls distance races(800M, 1600M,3200M.) The stadium is oriented in an EAST to WEST configuration which should minimize the wind’s effect on the races.

Boys 400M-Multiple runners in the mix for the district title.

Field Events-Pole Vault and Shot Put have Warriors as some of the district leaders in their events.

The Unknown-There are always mystery guests that come out of nowhere to make an impact. Hopefully, these “cinderellas” are wearing Warrior colors.

The Competition-There are number of athletes, not just Warriors, that are some of the best in state.

Olivia continues a very strong season with a 1st place finish in the 3200M and the 1600M each a personal best.

Ashley and Emily followed Olivia’s lead with personal bests of their own in the 1600- though Ashley is not listed in the results for some reason she did run a 5:34.
